There is a fairytale air about Doxy. And there is a story which surrounds it. This is quite literal, as there is a wonderful narrative, made through the art of pargetting, which wraps around the walls of this lakeside cottage. ‘Doxie’ is an East Anglian colloquialism meaning ‘sweetheart’. It is a place where sweethearts meet and spend time entwined in each others’ arms (and, without wishing to be too lascivious, most likely legs too). The fireplace is reminiscent of a licorice twist and it suggests the entwinement of story and life that this place reifies.
